Naval Battle Of The Arginusae Islands, 406 Bc

Naval Battle Of The Arginusae Islands, 406 Bc

Sinopse

The Arginusae Naval Battle took place in 406 BC during the Peloponnesian War, east of the island of Lesbos. In battle, an Athenian fleet commanded by eight strategos defeated a Spartan fleet under Calicratidas. Regarding the tactic, at the stage of the maneuver, the Athenian Squadron adopted a hitherto unprecedented formation in two battle lines to counteract a probable Spartan Anastrophe. Both squadrons planned to enhance the capabilities of their standard naval units, among others the structural, the characteristics of the weapon systems (throwing and ramming or spurs), the speeds (driving force of the rowers). The simulation, trying to test the hypothesis outlined, will be that unlike a forward single advance with a disadvantageous frontal shock to the Spartans, because they did not have a second line, will try to maneuver and approach both Athenian flanks, pushing them towards the center and land ground.
